POKER CRUISE RULES AND STRUCTURE

Texas Hold'em
Texas Hold’em is the most popular poker game and a favorite for poker tournaments.  Each player is dealt two private cards, after which there is a betting round.  A card is burned, then three community cards (the flop) are dealt face up (in no particular order or pattern), followed by a second betting round.  A card is burned, and a fourth community card (the turn) is followed by a third betting round.  After another card is burned, a fifth community card (the river) and the fourth and final betting round is played.  At showdown, each player plays the best five-card poker hand he can make using any five cards among the two in his hand and the five on the board.  Because this is a tournament, the cards call themselves.  In other words, you do not have to know what you have to win.  If a card is accidentally dealt up it becomes the next burn card.  If two cards are exposed it is a misdeal.

Rank of Hands
Five card hands are ranked from highest to lowest: Straight Flush; Four-of-a-kind; Full House; Flush; Straight; Three-of-a-kind; Two Pair; Pair; and High Card

Betting
We will play “no-limit.”  Just like the pros.  A “big blind” is the required bet.  In no-limit poker the stake or “big blind” is the minimum bet allowed and there is no maximum.  If you verbally say you are going to do something, you are committed to act in that fashion.

Chip Values
Red = 5; Green = 25; Black = 100; Blue = 500; White = 1,000; Yellow = 5,000; Purple = 10,000.

Buy-in/Re-buy/Add-on
The buy-in will purchase 3000 chips. These chips have no monetary value and can never be redeemed.  Each tournament will have different rules regarding re-buys and add-ons.

Chips
All chips must remain at a table unless a player is moving to a different table.  All chips must remain in open view and can never be placed in a pocket.  At the Tournament Director’s discretion you may be removed from the tournament, with no refund, for violating this rule.

Winning the Tourney
The final player remaining with all the chips will be the first prize winner. The last player eliminated will be the second prize winner; the second to last player eliminated will be the third prize winner, etc.  If more than one player is eliminated on the same hand, the person who went “all in” with the most chips will finish in a higher position.  Pots may only be chopped by the final three people and only if all parties agree.

Timer Use and Breaks
A timer will be used for the blind progression.  The next hand will be dealt at the new blind level.  For the purposes of this rule, a hand is considered currently in play once all blinds are posted and the dealer has begun riffling.  The timer is usually stopped during breaks, consolidating of tables, and during any lengthy disputes occurring which require attention from the tournament director to resolve.  No additional hands at any table will be started during such a break, hands already in progress will be completed.

Seating
Each table will seat a maximum of eight players, although seating less will occasionally occur.  Seat number one will be the beginning dealer and will sit nearest the posted table number.  Blinds will be seats number two and three.  Players will be distributed as evenly as possible between all tables.  When the tourney begins a computer program will randomly determine seat placement.  As the tournament proceeds the computer will re-seat people as needed.  A moved player will be dealt a hand at the start of the next deal and assume any obligation of the new seat including the posting of a blind or dealing.

Dead Button Rule
If the big blind busts out and is not replaced by a player from another table, or moved, the button moves to the player who posted the small blind and the player to the left of the former big blind assumes the big blind. There is no small blind for that hand.  On the following deal, the button moves to the now empty seat (the seat vacated by the eliminated big blind player) and the two players to the left post the normal blinds. This will result in the same player being the dealer two hands in a row.  When the small blind busts out the button does not move. The player who was the big blind will now post the small blind and the player to his left will post the big blind. This also may result in the same player being the dealer two hands in a row.

Players Leaving
If a player leaves the table for any reason and will return with-in 30 minutes, he will drop every hand that occurs during his absence.  He will be responsible for all blinds but can not win any hands.  Players remaining at the table will post all blinds for the absent player.  Any player who does not return within 30 minutes forfeits all his remaining chips to the bank. There will be no refunds or cash-outs given to players who leave.

Players Arriving Late
Players who have committed their attendance to the Tournament Director but have not arrived by the deal of the first hand, at the Tournament Director’s discretion, may be assigned a seat and issued chips.  Another player will post all appropriate blinds on behalf of the absent player.  The absent player will also post a red, five, chip ante, each hand.  If the absent player has not arrived by the first break, the absent player’s chips will be removed from play and he forfeits any chance to play.

These rules are to be used in conjunction with ‘Robert’s Rules of Poker’. Where there is a discrepancy between these rules and Robert’s Rules of Poker, these rules shall take precedence.
